MANCHESTER UNITED COULD BE SET FOR AN OVERHAUL OF PLAYERS, AS RUBEN AMORIM LOOKS TO REBUILD THE SQUAD HE INHERITED FROM ERIK TEN HAG – BUT THERE ARE FOUR STARS WHO ARE ALMOST CERTAIN TO STAY
PUT 12:41, 21 May 2025 Manchester United have now deemed they have four players who are unsellable heading into the summer transfer window, as Ruben Amorim looks to revamp his squad. United
have suffered a lacklustre season under new boss Amorim, who stepped up to take the reins in the wake of Erik ten Hag's sacking in October. As it stands, the Red Devils sit 16th in the
Premier League table, having achieved just 10 victories in the whole 2024/25 campaign – three of which Ten Hag secured before his dismissal. With the Europa League final against Tottenham –
who are also going through similar domestic struggles – up next as the club's last hope of silverware this season, drastic measures may be needed over the summer should Amorim hope to
bring back glory to United. The truth is that the 40-year-old tactician has struggled to mould the squad he inherited from Ten Hag's tenure to his unique style of play, with the likes
of Gary Neville suggesting that a minimum of six fresh faces are needed within the first team ahead of next season. However, the board may need to offload stars before they are able to bring
new talents in, as evidenced by their meagre business in January which saw them shell out just £26million on Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu. It is thought that minority shareholder, Sir Jim
Ratcliffe, will hope to bolster United's transfer budget this summer with the permanent departures of three stars who are all currently out on loan. Marcus Rashford has been plying his
trade at Aston Villa since January after it was evident that he didn't align with Amorim's plans, while Antony is currently enjoying a stint with Real Betis, and Jadon Sancho is
at Chelsea. There is a belief that United could gain as much as £100m for the trio, however, moving the players on may prove a tad problematic. Chelsea may prefer to pay a £5m penalty
instead of buying Sancho for the £25m they agreed as an obligation for finishing within the top 14 of the league this season, given that he has failed to make much of a mark in west London.
Meanwhile, Villa are yet to commit to the £40m asking price that United hold for Rashford, and while Antony has become one of Betis' top performers as of late, they have no obligation
to buy him at the end of his loan spell. Four players who have been deemed irreplaceable for United may also give Amorim a bit of a headache in terms of flexibility with his summer plans.
According to The Telegraph, Bruno Fernandes, Amad, Leny Yoro, and Harry Maguire are deemed as must keeps at United for 2025/26, meaning that Amorim may be forced to implement them into his
plans going forward and build around them – despite Fernandes hitting 30 in September, and Maguire just turning 32 in March. It comes as a major U-turn in terms of the players deemed to be
untouchable at United heading into last year's summer transfer window. According to the same publication in April 2024, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund were the
three players who United needed to keep hold of. However, sub-par performances across the board in 2024/25 have seen opinions seemingly change at Old Trafford. While Garnacho has provided
six goals and two assists in the Premier League this season, he has recently seen himself demoted to the bench in favour of Mason Mount. Hojlund, meanwhile, has found the back of the net
just four times this term in the Premier League, a far cry from the proven goalscorer that United yearn for at present. Meanwhile, Mainoo has also failed to provide from the centre of the
park – both goalless and without an assist in 24 league games this season. Article continues below Time will tell how matters play out for United this summer, with the pressure set to mount
on Amorim in 2025/26. The board have been incredibly lenient with the mastermind's lack of results this term, but that could soon change should he fail to deliver after enjoying a full
transfer window and pre-season to tinker with his team. The upcoming window will not be in the minds of the United top brass on Wednesday night, however, as the Red Devils aim to secure
their first Europa League title in eight years when they face Ange Postecoglou's Spurs. The two sides have only ever met once in Europe before, with Matt Busby's United beating
Spurs 4-3 on aggregate over the course of two legs, during the last 16 of the 1963/64 Cup Winners' Cup.
