Ruben Amorim's future is up for debate after Manchester United's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final. Brennan Johnson fired Ange Postecoglou's side
to glory at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain, on Wednesday night, finding the net shortly before half-time. Despite United's best efforts to find an equaliser, the Lilywhites
held on to lift their first trophy in 17 years. By winning the Europa League, Spurs have secured qualification to the Champions League, salvaging what has been a disappointing season in the
English top-flight. The same cannot be said for United, who are without European football and will finish the Premier League just above the relegation zone. So, with that being said,
MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS writers have given their verdicts on Amorim's future. JACK FLINTHAM Let's not beat around the bush, this season has been a disaster from start to finish.
United sacrificed the Premier League when qualifying for Europe through it was impossible and all of that was a waste of time. Is Amorim to blame for that? For me, not entirely. United could
have been a bit more pragmatic under his leadership to grind out a few more results. But it is the players that have not lived up to the high standards set by everyone at the club and now
you feel it will be them that pay the price and not the manager. Without European football, United will have no excuses to finish at least in the top six. Amorim is the person who Ineos will
trust with that rebuild and that seems the right decision. He is safe for now but the real scrutiny starts in August. JAKE STOKES Despite leading United to defeat in the Europa League
final, Amorim should keep his job. He only replaced Erik ten Hag in November, so he's hardly had very long – or the opportunity – to implement his philosophy to the best of his ability.
Amorim should be given a pre-season and full summer transfer window before he's held to such great standards. It's hardly as if the 40-year-old inherited a good squad! At the end
of the day, Amorim was brought in to lead a project at Old Trafford, so he should be given the time and resources to do so. It's also worth noting that United can't go and appoint
a win-now mentality head coach because they simply don't have much quality in the squad. KIERAN HORN Even though United have lost the Europa League final and were poor in that defeat to
Tottenham, there is no use in sacking Amorim. While he is not blameless, Amorim is a young coach that has been brought over during the middle of a season with an entirely different system
and thus time is needed to adapt. Just look at Patrick Dorgu, an Amorim signing that is perfect for his system. Not having Champions League football will impact the signings potentially made
but young and talented players will still want to come to the club if they can get recruitment right, United will start improving. ISAAC SEELOCHAN Amorim has rarely held back in his honest
assessments of United. A notable standout was suggesting in January that his side could be the worst Manchester United team in history. He's not far off in that assessment after
Wednesday's defeat in the Europa League final His fairly recent arrival at the club may have afforded him some leeway to make these comments. The Reds are at their lowest ebb, but
managers are often afforded more time at Old Trafford than at other clubs. It's unlikely that Amorim will be sacked this summer, even after their terrible results during his brief
tenure so far. However, like his predecessor, Erik ten Hag, the spotlight will be shone on him if they remain this low going into the Autumn, and that could be fatal for his job prospects.
WHAT AMORIM SAID Addressing the media after the defeat in Bilbao, Amorim said he will quit United without receiving any compensation if the club believe he is no longer good enough to be
coach. "In this moment, I am not going to be here defending myself, is not my style," Amorim said. "I cannot do it, is really hard for me. So I have nothing to show to the
fans to say I am going to improve because of this, I had these problems, I will not do nothing. "In this moment, it’s a little bit of faith. So let’s see. Like I said before, coming
here before in the flash, I am always open. If the board and fans feel that I’m not the right guy, I will go the next day without any conversation about compensation. "But I will not
quit again. I am really confident in my job and, as you can see, I will not change nothing in the way I do things." TRY MUFC PRO NOW FOR FREE Subscribe to our brilliant app for the best
