A 41-YEAR-OLD MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED 09:40, 31 May 2025 A Greater Manchester Police sergeant remains in hospital this morning after a car 'reversed into him' several times during a

hit-and-run incident on Friday night. The horror unfolded on Frodsham Street in Rusholme, Manchester, at around 6pm on Friday (May 30). The officer was crushed between the car involved and

another vehicle before the driver fled the scene in a car. He was rushed to hospital where he remains in a stable condition on Saturday (May 31), Greater Manchester Police said. A man, aged

41, has been arrested and remained in police custody for questioning on Saturday morning. He is being held on suspicion of section 18 assault, dangerous driving and failing to stop, the

force said. A senior GMP officer said the incident was 'a reminder of the risks that our frontline officers face daily as they go about their duties to keep communities safe and respond

to incidents'. Assistant Chief Constable Steph Parker confirmed a full investigation was now underway 'to pursue justice' for the injured officer. Article continues below The

_JOIN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS WHATSAPP GROUP HERE_ "It was reported that a car reversed into the officer several times, crushing his legs between two vehicles, before making off

from the scene. "The sergeant has been taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to his legs, which are not thought to be life-threatening or life- changing, and he is being supported

by colleagues. "A 41 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault, dangerous driving and failure to stop and remains in custody at this time." ACC Parker

added: "This incident is a reminder of the risks that our frontline officers face daily as they go about their duties to keep communities safe and respond to incidents. Assaults on

officers are wholly unacceptable and take them away from being able to serve and protect the public, which is what they come to work each shift to do. "An investigation is now underway,

and we’d like to thank those who have already come forward with information about the incident, and to those in the area who may have been impacted by the emergency response. "Our

priority is the wellbeing of the injured officer, and I wish him a speedy recovery as we look to pursue justice. Article continues below "Anyone who has not yet spoken to us, but has

information, CCTV or dash-cam footage of the incident, or the moments before and after, can contact us on 101 quoting log 2828 of 30/05/25."
