Bury market named among top-10 coach trip destinations in the country

THE ATTRACTION, WHICH HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS 'HOW SHOPPING USED TO BE', SAW ALMOST 1,200 COACH TRIPS ARRIVE LAST YEAR 13:59, 20 May 2025 Bury Mark has been named one of the top-10

coach trip destinations in the UK. The accolade has been bestowed on the shopping centre by The Confederation of Passenger Transport CPT, the national body for the coach and bus industry.

The three-day market ranks alongside other coach trip destinations such as the Cotswolds, Matlock Bath and The Royal Yacht Britannia, Edinburgh in the top 10 list. The market offers free

coach parking and has a dedicated coach drop-off and pick-up point on to help visitors and shoppers. 2024 saw the number of coach trips visiting Bury’s market rise with an average of 23

groups arriving in the town every week. Nearly 1,200 coach parties visited the town centre last year bringing shoppers from as far afield as Truro and Aberdeen. The total number of 1,199 is

an increase of 7pc from 2023, which itself was 15pc up on 2022. Bury Council said the rising interest in visiting the town demonstrates the ‘huge attraction’ the town’s historic and famous

market continues to be. The highest month for coach visits was November with 187, closely followed by October, 180. September was the third most popular month with 131 coaches with Wednesday

the most popular day for arrivals. The market is currently planning for future decades with a new roof canopy to protect shoppers and traders from the worst elements of the weather being

built. Work is also starting nearby on a £20m flexi-hall suitable for a host of uses. Article continues below A spokesman for CPT said: “A favourite among coach groups, Bury Market combines

traditional northern character with modern convenience. “It’s no surprise the market hosted 1,200 coach visits last year – a 7.15% increase – and has been shortlisted for Britain’s Favourite
