BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend festival is finally here - and the festival was in full swing from the moment gates opened at 2pm today. The festival takes places each year in a different
location across the UK, with a superstar line-up curated by the radio station. This year's big names include Sam Fender, Mumford & Sons, Tate McRae, Sugababes, Haim, JADE, AJ
Tracey, Myles Smith, Wet Leg, Blossoms, Lola Young and many more. Fans will be able to enjoy around 100 acts across the bank holiday weekend. Headliners will take to Radio 1's Main
Stage while dozens more will hit the New Music Stage, Dance Stage and Introducing Stage. Around 100,000 fans are expected to visit the festival during the weekend - and this afternoon the
crowds were in amazing spirits as they enjoyed incredible live performances. Bucket hats, retro fashions and novelty t-shirts were all on display, as Sefton Park was transformed into a sea
of colour and sequins. Today the main stage at the three-day festival was opened by Liverpool's own The Wombats, who brought their indie rock hits to delighted crowds on sunny Friday
afternoon. Addressing the crowds in Sefton Park, Wombats frontman Matthew Murphy said: "I used to come running here as a kid", before launching into a performance of Sorry I'm
Late, I Didn't Want To Come. During the Liverpool band's performance, a number of costumed wombats joined them on stage to dance and get the crowds going - before they removed
their costume's heads to reveal themselves to be BBC Radio 1 DJs in disguise. We captured some of the joy and excitement from the crowds at the festival today - see if you can spot
yourself in our photo gallery.
