IRONING CAN BE SUCH A CHORE BUT THIS GADGET SAVED ME LOADS OF TIME AND HASSLE 12:23, 20 May 2025 If you’re anything like me, your wardrobe is filled with clothes that you love but never

actually wear. Whether it’s because you don’t have quite the right occasion, or it’s an item that only suits the temperature on one day of the year, there are so many reasons that a

beautiful piece of clothing can stay glued to its hanger. For me another big reason for not wearing some of my favourite pieces in the past was that they needed ironing. Aside from simple

laziness, I am almost always in a rush to leave the house and ironing was an extra 10 minutes I never felt I had. For years, shirts, cotton skirts and even so many simple tops were off the

cards because I simply couldn’t face the crinkles. So when my friend first introduced me to the idea of a clothes steamer, it seemed too good to be true. I first put a steamer to proper use

on my graduation dress - which thankfully was a simple cotton material with spaghetti straps and no complicated frills to contend with. Admittedly, I was rushing to get ready even on my

graduation morning. The steamer was a life saver with no need to set up a clunky ironing board or risk burning my dress. Article continues below To use the gadget you simply fill it up with

a small amount of water and turn it on to allow the water to start heating up. You then run the nozzle of the steamer over your clothes and the steam causes creases to fall out. I have also

used mine on curtains and furniture fabric. Personally, I was shocked by how quickly and effectively it worked. On thinner and lighter materials the effect is almost instant. I had expected

to be standing there for ages wielding the steamer but a couple of minutes did the trick. Home Bargains is currently selling a Swan handheld garment steamer for £19.99 which is also small

enough to travel with. The only times where a steamer wouldn’t suffice is for shirts that need crisp collars ironing into place. Article continues below A steamer is great for getting out

creases it isn’t useful for shaping clothes in the same way as an iron. For thicker and more stubborn materials, an iron also might be a quicker. That said, for day-to-day use I am a

complete convert to the steamer and you won't catch me wrestling with an ironing board any time soon.
