Standing in front of the Gwladys Street, Beto could not believe what he was hearing. This was, after all, a time when Blues supporters were saying goodbye to their beloved Goodison Park. The
'End of an Era' farewell ceremony was well underway following a win over Southampton, and Goodison greats had already been around the pitch for one final time. Then David Moyes
and his side made their way around to show their appreciation to the club’s supporters; Jordan Pickford’s new song was sung loud and proud before attention turned to Beto. And as Everton
supporters sang the forward’s name, he turned to a nearby camera and just simply said: “Why me?” It was quite the moment for the former Udinese man, who was clearly taken aback by the
reception he was receiving. And it is easy to understand why, as while this was a farewell to Goodison, a couple of months ago this might have been a farewell to Beto. Under Sean Dyche, the
forward looked a shadow of the player that finished the season. He managed just one goal in the Premier League games Dyche took charge of this season. As a result, a summer exit felt
inevitable, and it was easy to see why he was being linked with a move back to Italy. But having been handed a new lease of life since David Moyes returned in January, the 27-year-old has
just got better and better. He eventually finished the campaign with eight goals to his name in the Premier League, scoring in two of his side’s final four games of the season. GOODBYE

goalscoring record that improved under the Scot; his hold-up play has also come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of months. Whatever David Moyes and his coaching staff have been doing
on the training pitch has been working. And in quite the turnaround, it now feels inevitable that Beto will remain an Everton player as the club prepares to play its first campaign at their
new Hill Dickinson Stadium. Moyes himself has even hinted that Beto’s future remains at Everton, as, speaking ahead of his side’s 2-0 victory over the Saints, he explained why he likes the
Guinea-Bissau international so much. “He needed games,” he told the Sunday Times. “And a bit of faith. I like him because he’s really humble and self-effacing. “He’s critical of himself and
accepts [criticism]. Practises every day, really does. His goals are because he’s trying to improve.” A big summer rebuild is coming for Everton, but it feels like Beto will be one player
who will be part of Moyes’ squad next season. And that is something that you would never have said when Moyes returned at the start of the year.
