PEOPLE SAID THEY INITIALLY THOUGHT THE MAJOR POLICE INCIDENT WAS A DOG ATTACK 10:00, 31 May 2025 Neighbours rushed to help a woman who was seriously hurt in their street. People living on
Phythian Close, Kensington, said they heard a "loud bang" before looking out and seeing the woman collapsed near a garden gate last night. The incident took place at around 8.25pm,
when Merseyside Police were called to reports a woman in her 30s had suffered chest and face injuries after an assault. The woman, in her 30s, suffered "extremely serious
injuries", police said. She remains fighting for her life in hospital, where her condition is described as critical. A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder
in connection with the incident. He is being questioned by detectives after what police described as a "swift" arrest. Phythian Close remained cordoned off this morning, as
residents said they had been ordered not to move their cars in and out of the area. A police officer at the scene said she had "no idea" how long the investigation would remain in
place. Two people living on the close said they heard a "loud bang" at around 8pm last night, May 30, and looked out to find the woman collapsed near a garden gate, being given CPR
by other residents. Article continues below A man said: "It was like a bang and we thought it was someone had been run over. But it wasn't; it looked like she had fallen or
something." A woman said: "She was lying in the gate. We thought it was a dog attack at first because there was a bag in the road. (The neighbours) were all giving her CPR."
Forensics officers were on the scene last night as police carried out enquiries. A further cordon has been set up around a house within the main cordon, with blue tarpaulin covering the
ground and wall. Detective Inspector Leanne Toole said: “A woman has been left with extremely serious injuries as a result of this incident. "Officers who attended made a swift arrest,
and I hope every arrest we make reassures victims that their reports will be taken seriously. Article continues below "Detectives are speaking to potential witnesses at the scene and
exploring all CCTV and doorbell footage opportunities in the local area as we seek to get a full understanding of what took place, and I would appeal to anyone with information to get in
touch.” Anyone with information on this incident should contact Merseyside Police social media desk via X @MerPolCC or on Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’. You can also report
