50 people rescued from large flat fire

PEOPLE IN THE BUILDING HAD TO BE RESCUED FROM WINDOWS AND BALCONIES 22:07, 02 Jun 2025Updated 22:20, 02 Jun 2025 Fifty people have been rescued after a large fire at a block of flats.

Firefighters were called to a four-story block of flats on Marsh House Lane, Warrington, after a fire in the stairwell. People in the building had to be rescued from windows and balconies of

the third and fourth floor as firefighters tackled the blaze. A large emergency services presence rushed to the scene just before 5.30pm. North West Ambulance Service treated those rescued

at the scene and nobody was seriously injured. The fire service will remain at the scene overnight and roads in the area will remain closed as investigation work takes place. A spokesperson

for Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: "At this time it is believed everyone in the building has been accounted for but firefighters will carryout thorough checks. Article continues below

"The blue light response has been significant, but the number of emergency service resources are being reduced accordingly. Fire crews will remain in attendance overnight. Roads in the

immediate area will remain closed. An investigation into the cause is underway." A number of road closures were put in place to allow emergency services access to the incident. Fire

engines from Warrington, Birchwood, Lymm, Knutsford, Penketh, Alsager and Widnes, plus the aerial ladder platforms from Lymm and Chester, were called to the scene. Article continues below
