Leicester City’s meek attempt at survival, and their second relegation in three years, has seen trust in the senior management at the club fall sharply. This season, there have been protests

inside and outside the ground, from marches and banners to increasingly-loud chants. Even on Sunday, during a day of celebration for City’s greatest-ever player, fans still made their

voices heard on the running of the club. Now fresh charges over Profit and Sustainability Rules have emerged. For those in the fanbase already upset over the organisation at the top of the

club, it’s yet more evidence of inadequacy. The club’s biggest supporters’ group, the Foxes Trust, are currently running their end-of-season survey, with more than 2,000 responses so far

received. Questions on financial management, day-to-day organisation and club strategy are unlikely to get positive feedback. But the response from City supporters differs from that among

other clubs’ fanbases. At other clubs where there have been charges over PSR, or even those where adjustments have had to be made to avoid breaches, the ire has been centred on the Premier

League rather than their own side’s hierarchy. They’re not upset with their club’s board, but with the governing body. The focus is on the fairness of the rules and whether they exist purely

to protect the wealthiest clubs and knock down any challengers to the status quo. There’s an element of that feeling at City, but the balance tilts more towards expressing frustration with

the running of the club. Perhaps, then, City need to ask why their fanbase don’t back them so wholeheartedly on such matters, like other clubs' supporters seem to. Previous mistakes in

recruitment and managerial appointments don’t help, but neither does the perceived lack of communication from the top over the club’s plans, an issue that crops up as a criticism again and

again. City chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha made reference to the “end of an era” on Sunday, knowing fans will see Jamie Vardy’s goodbye as a conclusion to their decade of success.
