A learner driver on a moped was caught by police on the M1 in Leicestershire. The learner had claimed their sat nav was the reason behind them being caught travelling at 30mph on the M1
southbound. Leicestershire Police said they stopped the driver after they saw him displaying an 'L' plate on the M1 at junction 22 around 9.40am last Friday (May 30). When he was
stopped the rider told officers he had only completed his Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), meaning he should not have been riding on the motorway at all. According to the force, the learner
claimed his sat nav had told him to join the motorway. He was caught while officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) were taking part in Operation Tramline, which is a national road safety
project aiming to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the road. READ MORE:Man charged in connection with Leicester crash which injured five Inspector Jake Thompson,
from the RPU, said: "Riding on the motorway when you’ve not undertaken the appropriate training puts both yourself and others at significant risk, particularly when travelling at such a
low speed. I hope this incident serves as a warning to motorists that you should concentrate when driving and don’t put all your trust into using a sat nav." According to police, the
rider was issued with a Traffic Offence Report after he was pulled over. The report was for careless driving and riding on the motorway without the correct license. WE ARE NOW BRINGING YOU
