An urgent warning has been issued after cold callers were reported to be targeting homes in Leicestershire. Trading Standards officials said two men in a white Ford Transit van were offering

driveway work to residents in the Market Harborough area. Leicestershire Trading Standards said yesterday (Monday, May 19) that the incidents were reported to police on Saturday (May 17).

Officials have warned residents to be wary of doorstep traders and to never agree to work on the spot. Homeowners are being warned to always obtain written quotes and thoroughly research who

they are hiring. They have also warned against paying for work upfront or in cash. READ MORE:'Aggressive' woman attacked police officer trying to help her A spokesperson for

Leicestershire Police said: “The report relates to a call made just before 11am on Saturday from someone stating they had seen a white van in Pochin Drive in Market Harborough. The caller

believed the occupants of the van were acting in an unusual manner. No criminal offences were disclosed.” Anyone who spots a similar vehicle cold calling in their area is urged to contact

Leicestershire Police on 101 or online, quoting reference LEP-170525-0240. For further advice or to report any concerns, residents should contact Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133. HOW TO

DEAL WITH COLD CALLERS Leicestershire Police have warned residents to be cautious of doorstep callers, as some individuals may be attempting to sell poor-quality or undelivered goods, or

using visits as a cover to commit fraud. They advised that while some callers may be from legitimate businesses or charities, others could be seeking to gather personal information or gain

access to homes under false pretences. The force said some scammers pose as utility workers or salespeople and may use surveys to obtain details or pressure residents into unnecessary

services. Officers urged people to always check identification, never call the number on an ID card, and verify a company’s details independently before allowing anyone into their home. We
