A sewage pipe burst has killed all the fish in a Leicestershire park pond. Severn Trent and the Environment Agency have been conducting daily visits to Braunstone Park to deal with the

incident. The Environment Agency said that the leak was initially reported on Monday (May 26) at approximately 9am. Severn Trent notified the agency later on the same day at 1.15pm. A

spokesperson for the Environment Agency told LeicestershireLive: "The first of the two lakes at Braunstone Park has suffered complete fish mortality. We are treating this incident with

the utmost seriousness and our officers will remain on site until the situation is resolved." READ MORE:Reported body in Leicestershire park was actually man locked in toilet The agency

has since opened a "full investigation" into the incident and are gathering evidence regarding the cause and impact of the pipe burst. They also said the sewage discharge has been

stopped as the repair by Severn Trent is holding, as of 4pm on Friday, May 30. A spokesperson for the agency said: "Our immediate priority is minimising harm to wildlife and water

quality, while ensuring Severn Trent Water takes all necessary steps to stop the pollution and repair the damaged sewer main. Where environmental laws have been broken, we will not hesitate

to take appropriate enforcement action." Members of the public have been urged to avoid contact with water in the affected areas. People are also being asked to report any concerns or

sightings of fish in distress to their 24/7 hotline on 0800 80 70 60. WE ARE NOW BRINGING YOU THE LATEST UPDATES ON WHATSAPP FIRST
