Police are assessing complaints about a social media post by Leicester-born presenter Gary Lineker featuring a rat image. The Metropolitan Police said they have received multiple reports
regarding the controversial post about Zionism which has since been deleted. A Met Police spokesperson told the Press Association: "We have received a number of reports from members of
the public relating to a post published on social media on Monday, May 12. The reports will be assessed to determine what further action might be required. There is currently no police
investigation into this matter." In a video on Instagram, Mr Lineker addressed the controversial post which Downing Street branded "completely unacceptable". He said: "I
would like once again to say I'm sorry, unreservedly, for the hurt and upset caused, it was a genuine mistake and oversight, but I should have been more diligent, I know that."

incident. The football pundit has issued an "unreserved apology" for the post he shared on social media earlier this week. The former England striker will no longer front the
corporation's coverage of the 2026 World Cup or next season's FA Cup. Mr Lineker has headed Match Of The Day since 1999 and had previously announced plans to leave the programme at
the end of this season. The Prime Minister's official spokesman acknowledged Lineker's contribution to the BBC but emphasised the importance of upholding standards.
"Specifically in relation to the social media post by Gary Lineker, that was clearly completely unacceptable and it's right that he's apologised," the spokesman stated.
In his apology video, Mr Lineker said that Sunday will be his final show, adding it was "best for all concerned that I step down from BBC presenting duties altogether and not do next
season's FA Cup or World Cup." The BBC 's highest-paid presenter had already planned to step down from regular Match Of The Day duties. YOU CAN READ MORE STORIES ABOUT GARY
