Coronation Street viewers were thrilled on Friday as one fan-favourite character was back on the cobbles after nine years away and it looks as though romance could be on the cards. During
the programme, Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) said her goodbyes to sister Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) as the Weatherfield residents gathered for her funeral. Once the service was over,
everyone headed to the Rovers Return to celebrate Julie's life. While there, Eileen's partner, George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), decided to take the opportunity to profess his
love. As he asked her to marry him, it was clear Eileen was taken aback as she remained silent. However, she was saved from an awkward moment when her son Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas)
entered the pub. Walking in with a suitcase in tow, he said: "The Rover Returns, well don't all rush at once! You alright, Mam." After leaving the cobbles back in 2016, Jason
has been living in Thailand, although he's often been mentioned over the years in the show by his mum. Eileen jumped up from her seat and rushed over to Jason, giving him a huge hug
before the other Weatherfield residents piled in to say their hellos. It seemed as though he caught the attention of Glenda Shuttleworth ( Jodie Prenger) as she remarked: "Is it wrong
to have sexual thoughts at a wake?" Later on in the show, Glenda made her feelings known to Jason as she told him: "I wasn't earwigging before, but when you mentioned this
girl Lindsey she needs her head checking! "I wouldn't kick you out of bed for eating crackers. I might kick you into bed!" With the beloved resident making his return, could
this be the start of a summer romance? While one romance could be blossoming, it seems as though another has come to an end. George reiterated his love for Eileen, admitting he wanted to
spend their lives together. Realising she wasn't in the mood for a chat, he suggested speaking about getting engaged in the next few months instead. She replied: "Oh George, this
has got nothing to do with timing or my grief or the police. I don't want you to ask me to marry you, because I don't want to marry you. "You're the loveliest man and the
last thing I want to do is hurt you, I really wish I felt the same, but I don't and I'm so, so sorry." _CORONATION STREET IS AVAILABLE TO WATCH ON ITVX._
