to her own basket and one by Meggie Wagner as No. 14 Ventura (23-1) took control of the extra period. Ventura trailed by five points through most of the second half, and needed a 17-foot


basket by O’Neill with 40 seconds remaining to tie the score at 62-62 and force overtime. Kali Bennett added 17 points, and Wagner 15 for Ventura. Newbury Park (13-7), which beat Simi Valley


Royal on Friday, 59-58, to win the Marmonte League championship, was led by Brynn Cameron, who scored 23 of her 27 points in the second half, and Kavita Goss, who had 15; each had four

Agabao hit a three-pointer with 18 seconds remaining to give visiting Schurr (8-18, 5-5) the lead, 47-46 and on the next possesion for Schurr, Danielle Cabello was fouled and made both free


throws to seal the victory. Agabao ended up with 10 points on the night. Bell Gardens falls to 6-4 in league and this win grants Schurr a playoff spot. ALPHA LEAGUE Third-Place Playoff L.A.

Thursday playing for history. The Ladycats delivered, too, extending their state-record league winning streak to 184 over a span of 19 seasons as it defeated No. 24 Placentia El Dorado,


58-38. The game hardly resembled their last meeting, which went down to the final minute before Brea pulled out a 49-46 victory. El Dorado (23-3, 8-2) hoped that it had a chance to steal a


share of Century League title with an streak-busting victory. The Ladycats did trail early, 7-2, but then scored 24 of the next 30 points. Brea (21-5, 10-0) had four players score in double


digits, with Kim Goeggel and Carrie Noyes scoring 14 apiece, Lauren Pedersen with 13 and Jeanette Pohlen with 11. El Dorado senior Melissa Cook scored 19, same as she had in the first game.


However, Cook had a difficult time getting the ball in scoring position as she and her teammates -- who include four sophomores in the rotation -- were denied good looks at the basket by an


aggressive Brea defense. “I think they were a little scared,” El Dorado Coach Wayne Carlson said of his younger players. Brea forced the tempo, and the faster game played into the hands of


guards Pedersen and Thune. Brea committed only four turnovers, none in the first half as they built a 28-19 lead. “When you get a shot every possession,” Carlson said, “you’ll beat

visiting Hart (24-1, 10-0), which won a school-record 20th consecutive game. It was also the Indians’ 21st league victory in a row. Taylor Lilley scored 14 points, making four


three-pointers, and Brit Brown added 13 for Hart, which shot 56% (23 for 41) from the field and made 19 of 25 free throws. Tamaiya Smith, Day Weathersby and Lindsey Smith each scored 13


points for Valencia (20-5, 8-2), which was trying to avenge a 64-62 loss at Hart on Jan. 23. Kelley Tarver, the Vikings’ leading scorer at 18 points per game, was limited to five points on
