The success of a war-driven blood drive in January enabled the local American Red Cross to reduce its collection efforts through March, according to a spokeswoman. “We reached a point where


the supply of blood was so large” that a regular collection effort could lead to waste, said Cheryle Babbitt, operations manager for the Red Cross Los Angeles-Orange counties region. The


blood supply is expected to be “just where it needs to be” by month’s end, and collection efforts will resume as usual, she said. The Red Cross had issued an urgent appeal for donations Jan.
