Legitimate veterans groups have few solicitation drives

Was very happy to read your article about the American National Veterans (Times, Jan. 10). As a woman disabled veteran and life member of three legitimate veterans organizations, I can

readily state that the whole thing has been a thorn in our side. The legal veteran organizations are Disabled American Veterans, Amvets, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the

Paralyzed Veterans of America. We have a membership card, hat with name of organization, chapter or post printed on cap and a membership pin to prove this. The only time the veterans ever

solicit money is either for the Blue Forget-Me-Not drive for the Disabled American Veterans or the Red Poppys of the American Legion. If a veteran needs help, he or she should join a

veterans organization. A service officer will do all he can to help you. The Veterans Administration is there to help. Some of the men who hold high positions in the Veterans Administration,

DAV and other veteran organizations are also wheelchair-bound and double amputees. In a few months, I will join my comrades on the forget-me-not drive. I will wear my hat, I will show my
