Utility man Doug Mientkiewicz, who missed most of the 2009 season because of a dislocated shoulder, has re-signed with the Dodgers, agreeing to a minor-league contract that includes an

invitation to spring training.

The contract was similar to the one Mientkiewicz had when he reported to spring training this year as a long shot to make the Dodgers’ opening-day roster. Mientkiewicz earned a spot on the

team as a left-handed pinch hitter, only to hurt his shoulder two weeks into the season.

Initially told by doctors that he would be out for the remainder of the season, Mientkiewicz returned in time to play 13 games at the end of the season.

Mientkiewicz, 34, has a .271 career average over 12 major-league seasons that included stops with the Twins, Red Sox, Mets, Royals, Yankees and Pirates.

The Dodgers also announced today that they signed Angel Berroa to a minor-league deal. Berroa played a surprisingly significant role for the Dodgers in 2008, when he became the team’s

shortstop while Rafael Furcal was sidelined with back problems. Berroa hit .143 with no home runs and three runs batted in in 35 games for the Yankees and Mets this year.

Others signed to minor-league deals: John Lindsey, Prentice Redman, Francisco Felix, Juan Perez and Josh Towers.
