As far as football goes, there’s no doubt that Liverpool are miles ahead of Manchester United right now.

This time tomorrow, Liverpool will be preparing for their final Premier League match of the season and they could finish the weekend as champions, three-quarters of the way to an

unprecedented quadruple.

As for Manchester United, well they haven’t won anything since a Europa League in 2017 and are probably going to finish sixth in the table, with the Red Devils 10 points behind fourth-placed

Tottenham Hotspur right now.

So yes, Jurgen Klopp’s side – who won both Premier League encounters by an aggregate score of 9-0 this season – and the Old Trafford outfit are rivals in history only these days.

But the imminent arrival of Erik ten Hag to the Theatre of Dreams could very well make United far more capable of competing with Liverpool off the field, if transfer rumours are anything to

go by.

Sport had reported that the Reds were admirers of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong and were weighing up a summer bid, but the Dutch midfielder, who played under Ten Hag at Ajax, is tempted to

play for his old manager at United next season and beyond.

If any English outfit signs De Jong, it looks, at the moment, like it’s going to be Manchester United, who now reportedly have another Liverpool target in mind.

According to CBS Sport, Darwin Nunez is also on Ten Hag’s wishlist this summer.

A Sky Sports reporter claimed that the Uruguay international is on Klopp’s radar on Merseyside but, like De Jong, all the recent talk is geared toward him moving to the Theatre of Dreams.

If United want to get back to competing with Liverpool on the field, they have to compete with them off the field and if Ten Hag can sign the same players Klopp wants at Anfield, well that’s

a very promising start.
