Ian Wright has raved about the Liverpool star after his performance at the weekend.
Ian Wright has written in The Sun that Liverpool have a lot to look forward to this season if Philippe Coutinho maintains the standard he showed against Arsenal.
The Brazilian schemer looked in fine form in North London on Sunday as the Reds left with a 4-3 victory to kick off their Premier League campaign with a fine win.
Coutinho netted a 35-yard free kick on the stroke of half time to cancel out Theo Walcott’s opener, before then adding a third goal after Adam Lallana had fired Jurgen Klopp’s side 2-1 ahead
shortly after the break.
The 24-year-old has blown hot and cold during his three-and-a-half year stint at Anfield for the most part, but he has looked a lot more consistent since Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers last
October.
Wright says that Coutinho was more or less “unplayable” against the Gunners, and believes Liverpool fans have plenty to get excited about if their go-to-guy replicates that magic on a
regular basis this season.
“Some have accused the Brazilian of not turning it on against the top sides, but at times he was almost unplayable,” he wrote in The Sun.
“When he’s in this form, there is a lot for Liverpool to look forward to.”
Coutinho netted eight times and set up five in the Premier League last term – a return he could and probably should comfortably better this time around.
