Guard, civilian injured as gunmen attempt looting bank

A bank guard and a civilian were injured after unknown gunmen opened fire while forcing their entry into Mohamadpora branch of J&K Bank in Kulgam district on Friday. The guard, Muhamad

Ashraf Pinjoola of Shangus-Anantnag, opened fire to prevent the robbery but the gunmen fired too, injuring him and civilian Ashiq Hussain Itoo of Mohamadpora Both the injured were shifted to

district hospital Kulgam for treatment. The civilian sustained a bullet injury in his hand and was discharged after treatment. The guard was referred to Bone and Joint Hospital in Srinagar

for bullet injury in leg. A police official said that they are ascertaining the facts about the incident but added that preliminary investigations suggest involvement of militants. No cash

has been looted. There has been spurt in bank robbery incidents since last year. The police have been blaming militant outfits for the robberies. Last year, they claimed to have arrested a

non local, Sandeep Kumar, from Uttar Pradesh working for the Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit for involvement in these incidents. RIFLE SNATCHED FROM BANK GUARD IN SHOPIAN Unknown persons on
