News story IMPROVING MANAGEMENT OF SKIN CONDITIONS: APPLY FOR CONTRACTS Organisations can apply for a share of up to £450,000 to develop technology to improve the diagnosis and management of

skin conditions. NHS Scotland and Scottish Enterprise have up to £450,000 to fund innovative technology and digital platforms that improve dermatology care. Dermatology services in Scotland

are treating a wide range of skin conditions, from acne and leg ulcers to life-threatening skin cancers. There are an estimated 4,000 deaths a year in Scotland due to skin conditions.

Non-life-threatening conditions such as psoriasis and eczema also have a big impact on quality of life. Skin complaints are responsible for 15% to 20% of new GP appointments, and skin

conditions are placing an increasing demand on health services. The competition is seeking ideas that improve the diagnosis and ongoing management of skin conditions, in particular those

that: * help patients manage their health from home * free up clinic appointment times for those patients who need a longer consultation with a dermatologist * minimise the time consultants

spend on administrative tasks * suit all ages and skin conditions * could be applied to other medical conditions COMPETITION INFORMATION * the competition opens on 14 November 2016, and you

must register before noon on 4 January 2017 * any organisation working alone or with partners can apply, including businesses, charities and researchers * up to £150,000 is available for

feasibility studies in the first phase of the competition. We expect these to range in size up to £30,000 * up to £300,000 is available to support the development of the best ideas in a

second phase. We expect these to range in size up to £150,000 * funding is available in the form of 100% funded development contracts * a briefing event for potential applicants takes place
