A large number of deaths and injuries on Surrey’s roads after the past few years has sparked an ambitious safety campaign aimed at cyclists and motorcyclists. Between 2022-24, 470 motorcycle

riders/pillions and 351 cyclists were killed or seriously injured (KSI) on roads across the county. The data also shows that tragically these incidents increase during the summer, with 49

KSI’s caused due to speed in June- July 2024 alone. With these figures in mind, the road safety team believes more intervention is needed to protect vulnerable road users. They will be

running a Speed Awareness campaign until July alongside a 2-Wheel campaign called “Habits for Life”. This will encourage all road users to adopt habits which could save a life, and will be

spread across social media. As well as the online campaign, the RoadSafe team will also be engaging with the public through public events with practical education, advice and tips, as well

as the odd road safety quiz. Throughout the period Surrey RoadSafe will be conducting targeted police enforcement with cyclists and motorcyclist safety front and centre. Surrey RoadSafe is a

partnership of Surrey Police, The Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner for Surrey, Surrey County Council (including Surrey Fire & Rescue Service) and National Highways.

Together the organisations aim to reduce the number of road casualties, in particular, fatal and serious injuries, as well encourage safer and considerate road user behaviour.
