Everyday routines could inadvertently be causing harm to your hair and skin, with one particular hairstyle potentially leading to hair loss over time. Dr Suhail Alam of Aventus Clinic warns

that high-tension hairstyles may result in future health issues. Dr Suhail explained: "High-tension styles like slick ponytails may cause traction alopecia - a form of hair loss caused

by chronic follicle stress. Research published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that up to one in three women who regularly wear tight hairstyles experience some

degree of hair loss." In addition, the skincare expert highlighted various habits that could negatively affect skin and hair health. On the topic of hair care, Dr Suhail pointed out the

dangers of sleeping with wet hair. He stated: "Wet hair is weaker and more prone to breakage. Tossing and turning on it adds friction and tangling. Let it dry naturally, or use a

gentle blow-dry before sleep." He also advised against cotton pillowcases for their adverse effects on hair and skin. Instead, he recommends silk and satin alternatives to minimise

split ends, sleep lines, and the onset of wrinkles, reports the Express. Excessive washing is another concern raised by the expert, suggesting that shampooing twice or thrice weekly and

facial cleansing twice daily should suffice for most individuals. Taking long, hot showers can also compromise the skin's natural barrier, leading to dryness and sensitivity. To

mitigate this, experts recommend using lukewarm water and keeping showers under 10 minutes to help lock in moisture. Dr Suhail also drew attention to several everyday items that can harbour

bacteria, including dirty phones, makeup brushes, and hats. HEALTH STORIES He warned: "They can trigger acne, scalp irritation, and even folliculitis. Daily wipes and weekly deep cleans

can help prevent buildup." The doctor also advised against excessive face-touching throughout the day. He cautioned: "Touching your face transfers bacteria and oil, and constantly

fiddling with your hair causes breakage. Give your skin and scalp space to breathe - hands off." Dr Suhail's final recommendation is to use SPF consistently, even on cloudy days.

He emphasized: "UV rays penetrate clouds and still damage your skin. "In fact, up to 80% of UV radiation can pass through cloud cover. Daily SPF is non-negotiable. It protects

against aging, pigmentation, and even skin cancer - regardless of the weather."
