An upcoming Netflix series has received a stone-cold reception from fans of the manga it is based on, with a number of them calling on the streamer to "stop" releasing live-action

adaptations. Bet, which drops on the streaming platform in a matter of days, is based on the manga series Kakegurui written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Tōru Naomura. The story

centres around an elite school where gambling prowess determines social status - and the stakes are high. The streaming platform already has a number of TV adaptations of the manga

available, including two seasons of a 2018 Japanese language live-action series titled Kakegurui, an animated series also titled Kakegurui plus one season of spin-off series, Kakegurui Twin.

The latest instalment, titled Bet, will be available to stream from May 15. While it stays mostly true to the original manga, the English-language series will be the first adaptation that

is targeted mainly at American audiences. The official synopsis reads: "Bet follows the students at a boarding school for the global elite, where underground gambling determines the

school’s hierarchy. When Yumeko, a mysterious transfer student arrives, her gambling prowess puts her in the crosshairs of the powerful Student Council, while her secret quest for revenge

threatens to upend the school’s status quo entirely." The cast is led by Miku Martineau who portrays Yumeko, alongside Ayo Solanke (Clown in a Cornfield), Eve Edwards, Clara

Alexandrova, Hunter Cardinal, Anwen O’Driscoll, Aviva Mongillo and Ryan Sutherland. While there is still days to wait for the series to land, would-be viewers have been offering their

thoughts on the fresh adaptation online. Thousands of fans took to the comments section underneath the first trailer to discuss the offering. One Kakegurui fan demanded a third season of the

existing live-action series, rather than a new show altogether. They shared: "Netflix, I understand your desire for more Kakegurui, but you don't need to do this. WE JUST WANT

KAKEGURUI 3 PLEASE." A second person penned: "There’s literally a FANTASTIC Kakegurui live series out there what is this," while a third frustrated fan said: "This is a

crime against anime." However, a fourth admitted to being cautiously optimistic, writing: "I was hopeful, but I fear it's getting the Riverdale treatment." Another said

they were "fed up" with the adaptations and urged the streamer to "stop it." Meanwhile a sixth viewer shared: "As someone who never read the manga this looks

cool." "Stop it. There was already a live-action adaptation and it was actually good and faithful," added another manga fan on X. _ BET IS AVAILABLE TO STREAM ON NETFLIX FROM

MAY 15 _
