Clive Myrie recently sparked concerns while fronting BBC's News at Ten when he appeared to have a droopy eye, however it's not the first time he's experienced an eye issue.

Previously speaking about the importance of getting it right on the show, Clive said he wasn't allowed to wear an eye patch when he had a stye, as bosses believed it would be a

distraction to viewers. The 60-year-old said with the BBC being one of main sources that historians will revert to when they want information about the likes of Brexit, it was important to

look presentable. He said: "As a result, there's an element of fears in presenters, obviously you can't mess it because it's the 10 o'clock news, but also that

you're part of the furniture in someone's home at that fixed moment in time during the day. "And to mess that up in any particular way, and you know go in with pink hair or

wear an eye patch because you've got a stye, which I had just before Christmas, and I didn't wear the eye patch but I wanted to wear the eye patch but everyone was like, 'no,

no one will concentrate on what you're saying because you're wearing eye patch'." Clive said presenting with a stye at the time was "horrible" and left him

feeling "so self-conscious". "You're just thinking about this lump and you're not reading the [autocue] anyway it was horrible," he added on the Fortunately...

with Fi and Jane podcast in 2021. "And I thought, I want to wear my eye patch and I wonder how that would go down." After the podcast presenters jokingly claimed that they would

complain about it, Clive went on to say he hadn't had complaints about his eyes, but had cruelly been subjected to racial abuse. More recently, the newsreader garnered attention after

displaying a droopy eye during a live news bulletin in January. After viewers flocked to social media to express concerns, Clive responded: "Happy N.Year everyone and thank you all for

your concern over my left eye. It’s nothing serious, just an infection.(sic) "I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn’t having

any of it! Cheers." At the time, a doctor shared his thoughts on what could be troubling Clive. Dr Alasdair Scott, a science director at Selph, explained that eyelid drooping is known

as "ptosis" and can stem from various factors. While ptosis can be congenital due to underdeveloped muscles, it more often occurs later in life, particularly in those over 70. Dr

Scott noted: "As we age, the skin and muscles around the eyes stretch and weaken causing drooping of the eyelid," adding that up to one in five adults over 70 may experience some

level of ptosis "With over 9 million people in the UK aged over 70, this could mean nearly 1.8 million individuals are potentially affected by the condition." Meanwhile, the

presenter is back on screens tonight for another episode of his show Clive Myrie's Italian Road Trip. Viewers will see Clive take a trip to one of his favourite tourist spots on the

Amalfi Coast, where he will embrace Italian culture and sample its renowned cuisine. _CLIVE MYRIE'S ITALIAN ROAD TRIP AIRS FRIDAY AT 6.30PM ON BBC TWO._
