A bloomin' beautiful weekend event will see the gates open on some of the best kept gardens on Teesside.

This month, the public can take a sneak peek into beautiful gardens as the Stokesley Open Gardens event returns. On June 14 and 15 visitors of all ages will be welcomed into 20 gardens in

the area as keen gardeners showcase their blooms and share tips and tricks, in aid of Teesside Hospice.

Last time, over £27,000 was raised for the hospice by kind-hearted members of the public and the organisers and gardeners who attended the biennial Open Gardens event returns for 2025. Julia

Haigh, organiser, said: "The Stokesley Open Gardens event has been going for over 20 years now; it started from Teesside Hospice's support group, which was a group of people who were

passionate about supporting the hospice.

"There are 20 gardens planned to be open in total and it's a great family trip out. If you haven't been before, this is your opportunity for an absolutely fantastic weekend out."

As well as the varied gardens to explore, there will be refreshments such as homemade cakes, Pimms and ice creams on offer, family games, treasure hunts, beekeepers, scarecrows and more.

Each of the expert gardeners will also be on hand to share ideas for your own green space, as well as offering advice on growing your own vegetables and the opportunity to purchase plants to

get your garden started.

The event will once again raise money for Teesside Hospice, which supports over 3,000 Teessiders and their families each year, helping them make the most of every day and receive the best

possible care at the end of their lives. Julia continued: "Last time, we raised over £27,000 which we could not believe. There's gardeners of all ages, visitors of all ages from little

babies to people in their 80s and 90s who have loved gardening all of their lives. It just brings people together."

Julie Oxley-Hoyle, Community Fundraiser at Teesside Hospice, said: "It really is a stunning event and one that can be enjoyed by the whole family. We couldn't be more grateful for the

support from Julia and all of the gardeners, the residents of Stokesley and all who attend.

"The money raised over this weekend will provide vital funding for our services, which include a 10-bed In-Patient Unit, lymphoedema clinic, wellbeing services and bereavement support.

It's going to be a fantastic event, and we can’t wait to see everyone there!"

Admission to Stokesley Open Gardens, between 12.30pm and 5.30pm, is £8 per adult, which includes full access to every garden and a programme, while accompanied children go free. Programmes

can be purchased from The Yorkshire Store, Bexters Tea Room, Grainge Greengrocers, all Teesside Hospice shops and online at www.teessidehospice.org.
