A 'misogynistic' brute broke his victim's nose in a horrific attack as he punched and kicked her in the face. Jonathan Hay has been jailed for two and a half years after being
found guilty of section 20 unlawful wounding at Teesside Crown Court. The 41-year-old, from Hartlepool, appeared for sentencing via video link from HMP Holme House following a trial earlier
this month. Paul Cleasby, prosecuting, said the defendant dragged the woman by her hair before he "punched her, nutted her and slapped her.... and then booted her in the face".
During a trial, Hay admitted, while giving evidence, that he had punched the woman in the face four or five times. But Hay's claim of self defence was rejected by a jury. The
41-year-old has previous convictions for battery, the court heard, including following an incident in 2014 when he approached a victim at the amusement arcade and punched him in the face
unprovoked. Recorder Peter Makepeace told Hay, of Clifford Close, Hartlepool, that the attack on the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was a "prolonged and repeated
assault". "You fractured your victim's nose," said Recorder Makepeace. There were no fractures to her eye socket or cheek bone and there is no evidence of permanent
scarring. "I heard you give evidence, you have, in my view, entrenched misogynistic views about women," added Recorder Makepeace. Hay was jailed for two and a half years and a five
year restraining order was made preventing him from contacting his victim. FOR BREAKING NEWS IN YOUR AREA DIRECT TO YOUR INBOX EVERY DAY, GO HERE TO SIGN UP TO OUR FREE NEWSLETTER JOIN
