Scotland Hill Cairo, a son of Scotland Viper, took the overall championship and made the day’s top price of 8,800gns at the British Simmental Cattle Society’s show and sale at Carlisle.  Out


of a Burghbridge cow by Brinkton Excellence, Cairo was consigned by Doncaster breeder Thomas Hill and goes to Norfolk with buyer D Mitchell, Fakenham.   Otley, west Yorkshire breeder C


Clarke sold his Burghbridge Chester at 5,000gns to K Preston, Galashiels. Chester is by Brinkton Major. Jim and Patricia Goldie from Annan earned 4,800gns for their Blackford Albatross son


Newbiemains Conformer. He heads for Northumberland with buyers Lanton Estate.   Four bulls made 4,600gns. Bavington Courageous from J and J Sanders sold to G and S Coghill, Orkney; W


Hollingsworth‘s Midhope Commander sold to J Melville and Sons, Girvan, Ayrshire while B and L Allan’s Glenturk Cosworth went to C and J McBryde, Lockerbie.   Topping the females at 2,000gns


was the maiden heifer Sterling Samantha’s Dream from Boddington Estates. She went to R McCulloch, West Lothian who took several of the day’s best females.   The dispersal of the Dolwen herd


for Abergele breeders Bryn and Rhiannon Jones peaked at 6,100gns for Penwern Branwen, a Samark Superman daughter sucking her first calf by Auchorachan Wizard. Buyer was Mr McCulloch.  


Averages: 24 bulls £4032 and 10 females £1578; Dolwen herd: 10 females £2929 and one bull calf £1207.   (Harrison and Hetherington)
