The Abergavenny Christmas Primestock show and sale on Tuesday 6 December saw a “wonderful entry of Christmas cattle” with the champion title going to a red Limousin heifer.
Taking the title for the fourth year in a row, Messrs Pritchard, Olchon, Mill, Longtown, reigned supreme with their 510kg beast which then went on to sell for £2,050 (402p/kg) to Messrs
Willis Butchers,Cwmbran.
Judges Doug and Greg Willis and Wayne Randall, awarded their reserve title to a homebred heifer from Messrs G Phillips & Son, Penrhos. This 610kg heifer was also snapped up by Willis
Butchers and sold for £2,100 (344p/kg).
In the sheep classes, judged by Mr Trevor Parker, St Briavels, the championship title was awarded to a pen of five lambs from S C & P W Powell, Mynddislwyn. This lot sold for £300 a head
(728p/kg) to Terry Bayliss for Farmers Fresh.
Reserve was awarded to Christ Ball, Brynderi – the nine times previous championship title holder. His lot were also snapped up by Farmers Fresh for £160 a head. And his pen of 2nd prize
heavy lambs sold to £210 a head to Mr R Clode, Cripple Creek Inn, Raglan.
Abergavenny and Newport Market Auctioneers reported “strong trade” throughout the show with 100% clearance.
