MUMBAI: In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, more than 10 lakh cyber attacks were launched on Indian establishments, targeting critical sectors like defence, education,
telecommunications, and transportation, according to a report by Maharashtra Cyber. Maharashtra Cyber Cell has described the situation as a coordinated and escalating “cyber war” against
India. The report reveals that the majority of these cyber attacks originated from Pakistan, with several also traced back to Bangladesh, Morocco, and Middle Eastern countries. Hackers
attempted to steal sensitive data and engage in espionage with the intent to disrupt national security. Maharashtra Cyber authorities have confirmed that these coordinated attacks were aimed
at exploiting institutional vulnerabilities to gather intelligence and potentially orchestrate sabotage. Security protocols have since been tightened, and central agencies have been alerted
to monitor further threats. A report titled “Echoes of Pahalgam” highlights that the attacks are part of a deliberate offensive orchestrated by multiple foreign-based hacker groups,
primarily from Pakistan, the Middle East, Morocco, and Indonesia. Notably, ‘Team Insane PK’, a Pakistani APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) group, has emerged as the most aggressive attacker,
targeting Indian defence and educational institutions such as the Army College of Nursing and several Army Public School websites. These cyber attacks include website defacements,
exploitation of content management systems (CMS), and command-and-control (C2) strategies. Other active hacker collectives—like ‘Mysterious Team Bangladesh (MTBD)’ and Indonesia’s ‘Indo Hax
Sec’—have reportedly compromised telecom and administrative platforms. Yashasvi Yadav, head of Maharashtra Cyber Cell has confirm about Cyber Attack, Further he Said, the threat is severe
and ongoing. The department has successfully blocked some attempts, but key infrastructure—including banking systems, Indian Railways, and government portals—remains under high risk. The
report also reveals that weaknesses in India’s cybersecurity framework have allowed some breaches, including a serious data leak of Indian telecom information now found circulating on the
dark web. Authorities have been urged to urgently ramp up cyber defences to counter this growing digital threat.
