Google Maps Street View allows users to virtually explore locations around the world at street view. Using 3D cameras which snap photographs of destinations worldwide viewers can be
transported to almost anywhere in the world. While this is a useful method for people trying to find their way around a new location, or gain an insight into a holiday hotspot, it can also
deliver more unexpected results. While her upper half is completely in proportion, her waistline rapidly disappears into nothing but a knee and tanned foot poking out. Reddit users flocked
to the comments, reacting to the image. “This is ... so disturbing,” wrote one user. “I'm really confused...where are her legs,” asked another. One simply said: “Her waist is foot.” How
could this be? Surely this is not an accurate representation of the beach-goer? As previously mentioned, Google Maps used 3D cameras to create the interactive world loved by users. This
works by snapping multiple images of a location and then stitching them together in post-production to create a virtual reality that users can click around. Occasionally, if something moves
quickly while the images are being taken - such as a person captured on camera - this can have a distorting effect. That is likely what has happened here, as a fine line where the images are
stitched incorrectly is apparent just below the woman’s waist. However, one sceptical Reddit user did point out that, although her body seems out-of-proportion “the towel below her looks
fine.” The likelihood is that two separate images were stitched together, missing out a portion where the woman’s legs should be. A similar occurrence was spotted elsewhere, when a Google
glitch made a woman’s body abnormally large in some parts and exceptionally smaller in others.
