Judd Trump says he’s ‘fully rested’ ahead of his return to the snooker scene following a week’s long absence during the Welsh Open. The Bristol-born snooker star has fired a warning to his
competitors, stating he’s on the lookout for yet more titles, starting with the ongoing Players Championship. Trump has already won four tournaments this season, lifting the English Open,
Wuhan Open, Northern Ireland Open and German Masters. Having made a further three finals, the 34-year-old is one of the most in-form players on the circuit right now. That quality was on
display during Monday night’s Players Championship win over Chris Wakelin. Trump eased to a 6-2 first-round victory to book his spot in the quarter-finals. However, Trump wasn’t present at
the recent Welsh Open, after he decided to miss the tournament in favour of a short holiday instead. The world number two has admitted he is ready to get going again and even felt a tinge of
jealousy while watching Gary Wilson beat Martin O’Donnell in the final in Llandudno. “Now there’s a few tournaments, no more holidays, time to knuckle down,” Trump explained to ITV
following the Wakelin win. “I feel fully rested. I needed that coming up to the World Championships. Before, a few seasons I’ve gone in kind of burned out. This season I feel refreshed and
raring to go. “The season I’ve had so far. Seven finals, winning four, it’s been an amazing season, it’s about kicking on now. I’ve had my rest, time to get back to work now. After a few
days off I like to watch the other players to get that determination back. Thinking I should be in that final, even though I didn’t enter the event I still wanted to be in the final.” It’s a
scary prospect for everyone involved at the Players Championship, with Trump not only playing like a champion but talking like one too. Yet it’s come as little surprise to those who know
him well, with snooker ace John Higgins revealing just how devastating Trump can be when he’s in this form. “When I’m playing him he seems to play out of his boots,” Higgins told the Metro.
“There’s certain little things during matches that only the players realise and you think, my God, that’s incredible. “He’s stopped me a few times this season when I could maybe have gone on
and done something, but playing those elite, elite boys, they don’t give you many second chances if you don’t kill them off, if you don’t take your chance you don’t get a second one. I’ve
always said that he can overpower the table, not overpower his opponent, overpower the table with his cue action. “It’s incredible some of the shots he can pull off. The whip he can get
through the cue ball, he’s also a great all-round player now. He very rarely plays into baulk and it’s not near the top cushion. I’ve noticed that for a little while, that his length is
really, really good. That’s what he’s brought into his game. Allied to his potting, he’s a hard player to beat.”
