Liverpool hand jarell quansah new contract as richard hughes makes intentions

Liverpool's rising star Jarell Quansah has been honoured with a new and improved long-term contract in light of his progress at the club. The 21-year-old defender, who climbed through

the ranks after joining the Reds' academy at a tender age, has committed to staying at Liverpool for the long haul. Quansah made his inaugural senior appearance as a substitute in a

match against Newcastle United last August and went on to grace the field in 33 games across various competitions. Among these was the triumphant Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea. He

found himself named within England's preliminary squad for the Euros over the summer and has since remained an integral part of the Liverpool squad, starting the opening Premier League

match against Ipswich Town under new manager Arne Slot. Despite only last signing a fresh contract in May 2023, Liverpool have acted swiftly to reaffirm their commitment to the central

defender's future at Anfield and reward his progress with an improved salary. In a notable admission of Quansah's value to the team, Liverpool rebuffed a bid from Newcastle United,

who sought to include him in negotiations to transfer Anthony Gordon, in the summer. Quansah made it clear after putting pen to paper that Slot is a major part of the reason why he sees

himself on Merseyside for the long term. He told Liverpool's official website: “I couldn’t be happier at this minute. “I think the way the new manager has come in, his coaching style

has definitely been a massive part of that and I think it is the best club in the world for me to develop at and become a better player. “I think the players around me, who I’m looking to

work hard off and listen to, I think they’re the best in the position at the minute. So, like I said, there is probably no better place I could be.” “I just want to take each step as it

comes, every training session as it comes. I just want to keep trying to get better on the training pitch really and as long as I stay tunnel vision to that… “I just want to keep

progressing, keep trying to learn, and keep trying to get better and better [by] trying to learn off all the senior players, and I’ve got a lot in my position so anything I can take from

them I am trying to do day by day. “I am hoping to obviously push as well, hopefully we’re breeding quite a good environment that we’re all challenging for places and as long as we’re doing

that I think we’ll all become better players and ultimately become a better team.” Meanwhile the Reds are reportedly working on securing a new contract for Quansah's fellow centre-back

Ibrahima Konate, who currently has a slight edge over his team-mate in the battle to partner captain Virgil van Dijk in central defence.
