Stranger things season 2 episode guide: how many episodes are there?

NETFLIX RELEASE DRAMATIC TEASER FOR STRANGER THINGS 2 Stranger Things is back today, more than a year after the first season became one of Netflix’s biggest successes. We return to Hawkins

in 1984, a year after Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) defeated the Demogorgon and Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) was rescued from the Upside Down. She is still missing, while he is struggling to get

back to normality and is experiencing “PTSD-like” visions of a terrifying new “Shadow Monster”. Season two is made up of nine episodes – one more than last year, but still few enough to

Named after new character Max (played by Sadie Sink), this episode will set up the new group dynamic as “this sort of skater punk girl” starts at Hawkins High School. “Dustin (Gaten

Matarazzo) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) end up kind of falling in love with her,” revealed Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike. “And she sort of gets into the group, and I’m not really happy with

EPISODE 2: TRICK OR TREAT, FREAK Much of the season two promo has been focused around Halloween, and judging by the title we’re guessing that this is the big holiday episode. We already know

that the boys are dressing up as Ghostbusters – is it too much to ask for that somebody else will do Beetlejuice? The sneering tone of the title suggests that Max’s “mean, controlling” big

brother Billy (Dacre Montgomery) will arrive in this episode. Creators Ross and Matt Duffer have said that Billy is someone who “could disrupt the lives of our characters”, drawn from

Stephen King’s “really great human villains”. NETFLIX Stranger Things 2: Dacre Montgomery joins as Billy EPISODE 3: THE POLLYWOG The pollywog is another name for a tadpole, no doubt a

reference to the slug-like creature that Will coughed up in the final moments of season one. A popular fan theory suggests that this creature is a form of Demogorgon larvae, implanted in

Will’s gut during his time in the Upside Down, which would chime with the episode title. There is a second definition for pollywog – a sailor who has not crossed the Equator. Could this be a

reference to somebody yet to cross into (or return form) the Upside Down? NETFLIX Stranger Things 2: Will coughed up a pollywog in the season one finale EPISODE 4: WILL THE WISE It goes

without saying that this episode will likely focus heavily on Will and his experiences after being rescued from the Upside Down. In season one, Will played a wizard character named Will the

Wise during a game of Dungeons and Dragons (which is also where the Demogorgon takes its name). Could this be a hint that the youngest Byers has acquired special powers as a result of his

ordeal? EPISODE 5: DIG DUG Dig Dug is a Japanese arcade game released in 1982 (two years before the events of Stranger Things 2). In it, the eponymous main character is on a mission to

destroy monsters that live underground, either by blowing them up with an air pump or by dwelling rocks on them. Is this a reference to the Shadow Monster? Or some other beast dwelling in

someone we know, in which case our money is on police chief Hopper, or the spy is a brand-new character, in which case it could be Billy or Joyce’s new boyfriend Bob. Played by Sean Astin,

Bob is “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce and Hopper and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack”. Either way, expect new character Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman) –

“a disgraced journalist turned conspiracy theorist who is investigating a cold case in Hawkins” – to be the one to uncover the mole.  NETFLIX Stranger Things 2: None of the episode titles

give any clues as to Eleven's fate EPISODES 7, 8 AND 9 When Netflix first announced that Stranger Things would return for season two, it announced tentative titles for all nine episode.

Apart from Madmax and The Pollywog (originally announced as episode six), all of the titles have since changed. Netflix is keeping the final titles for the last three episodes under wraps.

Originally they were dubbed The Secret Cabin, The Brain and The Lost Brother – which doesn’t give much away. One thing we are sure of is that the end of the season will introduce a new

“Voldemort”-like villain. Matt Duffer has teased: “We're not going to have a new monster for the kids to deal with every season. Moving forward, there's one clear tension.

It's like Voldemort in Harry Potter. “What you'll see is how this greater evil is connected to what happened in season one, so everything, hopefully, feels very connected from

season-to-season-to-season.”
