George michael fans brand channel 5 documentary 'disrespectful'

George, who died on Christmas Day last year, is reportedly due to be laid to rest in a few days time. The documentary took a look back at the star's life, including his rise to fame,

his coming out and his strained relationship with the press. It also included interviews with journalists Kelvin MacKenzie and Carole Malone who defended paparazzi that took pictures of

George on Hampstead Heath. Those watching at home branded the programme an "attack" on the late hitmaker. One viewer fumed: "Totally disrespectful 2 broadcast George

Michael's Last Days before his funeral @channel5_tv And heinous 2 inc comment frm Kelvin MacKenzie."(sic) "The Last Days of George Michael. Not really about the last days is

it, more like another chance to slag the man off. #GutterPress," another raged. A third angrily tweeted: "No respect @channel5_tv airing last days of George Michael before he is

laid to rest! Also has nothing to do with his last days! #RIPGeorge." While a fourth blasted: "The last days of George Michael is really starting to p**s me off it just seems like

an attack on George Michael like." However, some were touched by the programme, with one person commenting: "Watching the documentary about George Michael is killing me right now,

I don't think the man was ever allowed to be happy, so sad." "The Last Days of George Michael on 5. What a great insight to a hugely talented human," another added.

George's former Wham bandmate Andrew Ridgeley slammed Channel 5 in a Twitter post before the documentary was aired. Addressing the broadcaster directly, Andrew, 54, tweeted:

"@channel5_tv to conceive such a sensationalist and mucky piece of voyeurism may be par for the course for you…"(sic) The singer continued: "The decision to air before George

Michael’s funeral is insensitive, contemptuous and reprehensible._ _ "You might have the had decency to schedule post funeral and after a respectful period."(sic) A spokesperson

from Channel 5 said: “George Michael was a high profile public figure and there has been legitimate public interest in the circumstances surrounding his death, which have already been widely

reported across the news media. "‘The Last Days of George Michael’ is a measured account of the days preceding his death in December and of his musical career and his personal life,

including his philanthropy, based on contributions from those who knew him and reported on him over many decades.”
