Itv bosses cancel dci banks after just five series

The Stephen Tompkinson detective drama starred Stephen Tompkinson (Trollied, Truckers, Wild At Heart), Andrea Lowe (Love Life, Monroe) and Caroline Catz (Doc Martin) and was set in

Yorkshire. Produced by award-winning Left Bank Pictures, series five was plugged as the grittiest season yet, including the toughest investigations to date. The latest series saw the return

of popular cast members Jack Deam (New Tricks, Casualty) as DC Ken Blackstone and Keith Barron (Holby City, Doctors) as Banks’ father, Arthur Banks. ITV have announced that the fifth series,

which ended on October 5 this year, will be its last. An ITV spokesperson confirmed to Express.co.uk: "After five series, ITV has taken the decision not to recommission DCI Banks. 

"We're grateful to the production team at Left Bank Pictures for creating the world of DCI Banks and the actors Stephen Tompkinson, Andrea Lowe and Caroline Catz for the commitment

and dedication they've shown to their roles."  Series five's six-part drama featured new cast members Samuel Anderson (Trollied, Doctor Who) who played Vince, the latest

member of Banks’ team, Shaun Dingwall (Legends, Silent Witness) as Chief Superintendent Colin Anderson, Shaun Dooley (Broadchurch, Ordinary Lies) as hardened career criminal Steve Richards

and Maimie McCoy (Musketeers) as Richards’ wife, Tamsin. Inspired by the books from acclaimed novelist Peter Robinson, the drama featured self-contained stories told over two episodes, along

with an explosive serial crime story that weaved throughout the whole series. DCI Banks was forced to question all that he held dear, as he pitted his detective skills against a criminal

who stopped at nothing to escape the law. One fan tweeted: "What a total trash decision by ITV they get rid of one of the best crime drama's on tv what for more reality

rubbish!!!" "And another one bites the dust as Polly wields her axe. #DCIBanks #BriefEncounters," posted another. A third said: "Disappointed it's been given the

shove...but given what happened in the last few episodes, maybe not completely unexpected. #DCIBanks."
