Coronation Street debut tomorrow evening.

"X Factor will always be special but it feels like it never happened," he said on Good Morning Britain today, explaining that it happened a decade ago when he was just 21.

His first single That's My Goal reached Christmas number one and became the fourth fastest-selling song of all time in the UK. 

However after releasing his second album Obsession, it was reported in 2011 that the pop star was dropped from his record label.

He has since starred in musical Rock of Ages and took part in skating competition Dancing on Ice.  

Despite X Factor being 10 years ago, Shayne offered some advice to auditions hoping to impress the judges this year. 

"Just make sure the song you sing you're comfortable with," he told presenters Charlotte Hawkins and Kate Garraway, adding: "Keep focused on the song you're singing."

Shayne on the Coronation Street set Shayne described starring in Coronation Street as "mental" and "nerve-wracking".

"I've been good at learning lines because of my singing background," he said referring to making the transition from music to acting.

But despite venturing into the world of acting, Shayne said he had "absolutely not" put music on the back burner and was going to be continuing with his live shows.

Shayne Ward makes his Coronation Street debut The musician-turned-actor said that he had been getting advice from his fellow pop singer and Coronation Street star Kym Marsh. 

"It's been pretty cool, she has been fantastic with me," Shayne revealed, adding that Kym had done "incredibly well" on the soap having starred on it for nearly 10 years.

Shayne is going to be playing Aidan Connor on Corrie, a distant cousin to Carla (Alison King) and will be helping to bail her out her business.

The star summed up the character as "a bit of know-it-all" but a "nice guy" with "a little bit of charm".

He will be making his first appearance on Coronation Street on Friday night on ITV.
