Things are only going from bad to worse for Leanne Battersby (played by Jane Danson) in Coronation Street as she continues to struggle with her son's diagnosis. In recent episodes,

Oliver's results showed he has an incurable form of mitochondria disease, which impacts the cells that produce energy in our bodies and he will likely die. It is a long-term, genetic

and often inherited disorder that occurs when mitochondria fail to produce enough energy for the body to function properly, which can cause blackout episodes such as seizures. The illness

currently has no cure, but Leanne refused to believe her son is going to die and demanded a second opinion. The unimaginable pain she and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) are in resonated with

viewers, who couldn't believe the heartbreaking news themselves. But while the dismissive mother is determined to find a cure for her son, unbeknownst to her she might be causing

herself more pain in the long run. READ MORE: CORONATION STREET SPOILERS: RITA SULLIVAN EXIT AS CHARACTER RETURNS? Even her sister Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) is set to put her life on

hold so she can be there to support Leanne in her darkest hour. She and boyfriend Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) received good news about their adoption process so they can start their own

little family. In the past she underwent gruelling rounds of IVF treatment while with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), only to be told the devastating news that she is very unlikely to ever

get pregnant. But with high hopes, the couple focus on other options available to them under the circumstances and are over the moon when their social worker revealed they are a perfect fit

to be foster parents.
