in 2013 after Gabaldon’s novels had become a literary sensation. She first began writing them in the early 1990s and has sold millions of copies around the world. Therefore, the author might

be forgiven if she had different actors in mind for her literary heroes. However, in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Gabaldon revealed how the pair were perfect thanks to their

chemistry. She revealed how the executives on the show thought it would take a long time to find their Jamie. She said: “They thought Jamie was so specific that it would be very difficult to

find anyone to play him – but it only took four days. “When they called me after four days I said, ‘You’re kidding’. I was on the road and I couldn’t look at the casting tape until that

night, so instead I googled him and looked at his IMDB page. “At this stage he had a limited filmography, with some very odd looking stills, so I said, ‘He’s grotesque what are you

thinking’.” But as soon as she sat down to watch Heughan’s audition tape, she was sold. She added: “I was looking through my fingers, but five seconds later I thought he doesn’t look

anything like his photos, he looks great. “And five seconds more he had gone and it was just Jamie Fraser - I was astonished. “He was wearing a grey T-shirt, his hair was four different
