Silent Witness 2021: Will there be another series of Silent Witness?

The latest series of Silent Witness aired in January and there are 10 episodes in total this series, which is the 23rd. The final episode, The Greater Good, Part Two, aired on the BBC

earlier this week. But will there be another series next year? 

The BBC has confirmed there will be two more series of Silent Witness.

The release date for the next season is yet to be comnfirmed, but for the past eigth years Silent Witness has been released in the first week of January.

The main characters in the series could return again for a new set of episodes.

Emilia Fox plays Dr Nikki Alexander, who first appeared in season eight.

Other cast members still in the series include David Caves as Jack Hodgson, Liz Carr as Clarissa Mullery and Richard Lintern as Thomas Chamberlain.

Besides the main characters it is hard to say who will return for a new series.

A 24th series is likely to continue to focus on key characters including Dr Jack Hodgson (Caves).

In the current series Dr Hodgson collapsed after trying to help DS Vail (Adelle Leonce) who had come into contact with a deadly nerve agent.

There is a chance Dr Alexander (Fox) may find a new love interest in a new series.

She has had a number of relationships in the past but all have either ended due to death or incompatibility.

There is no indication of when a 24th series will be released but it is likely to be next January.

If the timings match those of previous releases a new series could air early next year.

The previous series tend to run over two months, so a new series could run into February next year.

Fans of the show will have to keep an eye out for a release date.

In the last episode, titled The Greater Good, Part one, Thomas Chamberlain (Lintern) investigated the case of John Sealy.

John was a soldier who died during a military training exercise involving exposure to a fatal gas.

The BBC said: “It appears John died from an aneurism, but when Thomas discovers the trace of a possible nerve agent in his system, the family are desperate for answers.

“Was a chemical weapon involved or is there a more innocent explanation?”

The next episode of Silent Witness airs on BBC One tonight at 8pm
