The Witcher sent Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry of Cavill) into a number of dramatic events over the course of the first season. Although the monster hunter dove through a slew of horrific
creatures, perhaps his biggest challenge was struggling to sleep.
Episode five of the show - titled Bottled Appetites - opened Geralt’s story by showing him fishing at a secluded lake.
As Jaskier (Joey Batey) arrived at the lake, he inquired thoughtfully about Geralt’s woes.
The witcher is not very talkative on the best of days and this instance saw him in a downright fowl mood.

Geralt grumbled to the bard: “Not fishing. Can’t sleep.”
As Jaskier continued to pester the witcher with what was going on, he lost his temper and screamed: “A djinn. I’m looking for a djinn. It’s in this lake somewhere and I can’t f*****g sleep!”
While fans of the show assumed this was the root of why Geralt was looking for the djinn, that may not be the case after all.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich recently held a Q&A on Reddit, in which she spoke out about a number of questions fans had about the show.

During this Q&A Lauren was asked: “And a lot of things didn't have any explanations or reasons to be, why was Geralt looking for the djinn?”
While she confirmed Geralt was looking for an easy sleep remedy, she may not have been telling the complete story.
She responded: “Geralt was looking for the djinn because he was exhausted and wanted to sleep.
“At least, that’s what he tells Yennefer. But do you think that’s really it?”
Fans continued to speculate, however, as another fan wrote: “Well, Geralt doesn't seem like someone who would go out of his way to find magical solution to his personal issues…”
“I also find it kind of strange, that one can just decide to find a djinn and can get it just like that - throwing a net randomly.”
But was Geralt simply attempting to get a full eight hours sleep or was there something deeper at play?
Fans inferred Geralt’s final wish from the djinn included being connected to Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) - but could falling in love have been his desire from the beginning?
Earlier this week The Witcher illustrator and writer Declan de Barra spoke out about an axed scene from episode four.
He posted a sketch of a vile-looking creature, and commented: “In 104 we meet Geralt after he has killed a beast called a Selkie Maw.
“Originally he was going to be swallowed by it, cut his way out & be chased by fifty squirming baby selkie maws. Sketch I made when pitching to room…”
