Game of Thrones deleted scene: Did Jon Snow know Daenerys would burn King’s Landing?

The final season of Game of Thrones aired last year on HBO and it came under a lot of scrutiny from fans. Not every detail penned in the scripts, however, were included in the episodes when

they were aired. So did the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) know about Daenerys’ (Emilia Clarke) plan to burn King’s Landing?

The battle at King’s Landing was violent and horrific as a number of important characters, including Cersei (Lena Headey) and Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), died.

But what was even more shocking was the terrifying rampage Daenerys Targaryen went on, burning down anything in her path as she rode on the back of her dragon Drogon.

No one could have predicted the Khaleesi would have turned into her father Aerys II, “the Mad King”.

However, it looks like Jon Snow actually did know what was going to happen after all.

The scripts for season eight, written by writers David Benioff, DB Weiss, Dave Hill and Bryan Cogman, are available at the Writers Guild Foundation Shavelson-Webb Library in Los Angeles.

These scripts have included many details which were not featured in the show itself.

One of them is a scene between Jon and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) just before the battle of King’s Landing.

The scene in the show was a short one but could have led to fans predicting what Daenerys was going to do.

In the edited scene which featured in the fifth episode of season eight, The Bells, Tyrion says to Jon: “A million people live in that city,” to which Jon replies: “I know.”

Tyrion continues: "If you hear the bells ring, they've surrendered. Call off your men."

Jon then says: "I don't think she's letting anyone surrender today.”

Tyrion responds: "We have to try. How many children are in there? She's not her father."

The aired version of this scene is shortened down to just Tyrion's line about surrendering when they hear the bells to which Jon nods.

At the end of the series, Jon ends up killing Daenerys to stop her from destroying Westeros.

But if he knew she was going to go on a rampage before the battle, in theory, he could have stopped it from happening.

So it could be the producers of the show wanted the attack on King's Landing to remain a surprise and for Jon to act as the hero.

HBO will be releasing a spin-off show to Game of Thrones called House of the Dragon.

The timeline of the show is set 300 years prior to the events in Game of Thrones and is based on George RR Martin’s book Fire and Blood.

The final season of Game of Thrones is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
