Leaving Neverland is available to watch on Channel 4’s All 4 now. The documentary looks into the sexual abuse allegations made against Michael Jackson, all of which Jackson and his estate

have categorically denied. Leaving Neverland is told from the perspective of two of Jackson’s alleged victims, Wade Robson and James Safechuck. WHO IS JOE JACKSON? Joseph Walter Jackson was

Michael Jackson’s father and trained the singer as well as his siblings. He was well known for his career as an American talent Manager and was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall

of Fame in 2014. Joe was born on July 26, 1928, in Fountain Hill, Arkansas. He married Katherine Scruse in November 1949 and they had 10 children together: * Maureen Reillette “Rebbie”

Jackson * Sigmund Esco “Jackie” Jackson * Toriano Adaryll “Tito” Jackson * Jermaine La Jaune Jackson * La Toya Yvonne Jackson * Marlon David Jackson * Brandon Jackson * Michael Joseph

Jackson * Steven Randall “Randy” Jackson * Janet Damita Jo Jackson IS WADE ROBSON MARRIED? According to the BBC, Jackson reportedly carried on a decades-long extra-marital affair with Cheryl

Terrell and the pair had a daughter together, Joh'Vonnie Jackson. Despite this, Joe remained married to Katherine throughout his life. Joe is referred to in the documentary in regards

to being the Jackson family patriarch. He was an aspiring blues musician himself but after his band, The Falcons, failed to secure a record deal, the band split. Joe began working with his

three sons Jackie, Tito and Jermaine in the 1960s and helped them form a music group called The Jackson Brothers. Joe’s other two sons, Marlon and Michael joined the group as the backing

band and the name was changed to the Jackson 5. In October 1967, the Jackson 5 were signed by Joe to their first professional contract with Gordon Keith, the president of Steeltown Records.

The Jackson 5’s first single was Big Boy, featuring Michael as the lead singer and was released in January 1968. IS JAMES SAFECHUCK MARRIED? Following the single’s success, Joe helped his

son’s audition for Motown Records in Detroit they were signed to the label in March 1969. In the late 1970s, Joe formed his own record label Ivory Tower International Records and signed his

daughter, Janet Jackson at age 16 and his youngest son Randy. In his later life, Joe was accused of being physically abusive towards his children. In a VH1 documentary titled Michael

Jackson’s Secret Childhood, VH1 News looked into the signer’s upbringing. The synopsis reads: “Beginning with Jackson's birth in 1958 to the record-breaking success of his Thriller

album in 1984, the special delves deep into Jackson's past, such as the mental and physical abuse he endured from his father, Joe Jackson (e.g., incessant rehearsals, whippings, calling

Michael “big nose”); Joe exorcised his frustrations over his own failed musical career by exploiting his musically gifted children - especially Michael - by forcing them to perform in seedy

bars and strip joints from Indiana to Ohio. “At the same time, the proselytizing of his mother Katherine - a devout Jehovah's Witness - confused Michael about singing, sex and family

secrets.” Speaking to Oprah Winfrey in 1993, Michael claimed that their father physically and emotionally abused him and made him and his siblings endure long hours of rehearsals. However,

Michael also credited his father for playing a huge part in his success. WHO IS BRETT BARNES? Michael recalled long hours of rehearsals and being hit with the belt, he said: “If you

didn't do it the right way, he would tear you up, really get you.” Joe had admitted to whipping his children as punishment. Speaking to BBCs Louis Theroux, Joe said: “I whipped him with

a switch and a belt. I never beat him. You beat someone with a stick.“ Also speaking to Piers Morgan on CNN in 2013, Joe said: “I had to be like that way because during those times, it was

hard, and you have a lot of gangs there, you know, in the area where we were living. “This was Gary, Indiana, and I had to make sure that they didn't get in any type of trouble, and

things of that sort. “I'm glad I was tough because look what I came out with. I came out with some kids that everybody loved all over the world. And they treated everybody right. “You

know, Michael, he was a nice guy. ... The world (doesn't) know anything too much about Michael as far as how he was brought up. But he was brought up. I made sure that he respected the

older people” Michael’s siblings Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon have denied that their father ever abused them. Despite these allegations, Michael forgave his father and honoured him with

an annual Joseph Jackson Day at the Neverland Ranch. Joe Jackson died on June 27, 2018, after a battle with pancreatic cancer at age 89. _LEAVING NEVERLAND IS AVAILABLE ON ALL 4 NOW_
