Catastrophe season 4 start date: How many episodes are in the new series?

Critically acclaimed Channel 4 comedy Catastrophe continues with its fourth season tonight. Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney are back as the dysfunctional London-based married couple for the

latest outing. Season four sees Rob finally deal with his secret alcoholism.

Catastrophe season four, episode one continues tonight, January 29, on Channel 4 at 10pm.

Episodes will air weekly at the same time over the next few weeks.

The fourth series started on January 8, picking up with Sharon and Rob in the aftermath of Rob's crash in the season three finale.

There are six episodes in season four of Catastrophe - the same as the previous three.

Tonight (February 12) marks the last ever episode of the show.

The finale is going to address the death of Carrie Fisher who played Rob’s mother Mia.

Taking to Instagram today, Horgan delivered a message to fans.

“It’s the last episode of Catastrophe today. Like last ever one,” she began.

“It’s so weird knowing it’s the last one, completely forever the last one - that’s so weird."

The official synopsis reads: “We re-join the couple after Rob’s (played by Rob Delaney) secret relapse to alcoholism ended in a dramatic car crash and forced confession to Sharon (Sharon

Horgan).

“While Chris (Mark Bonnar) displayed an unexpected softer side towards Rob and an altogether less soft side to Fran’s (Ashley Jensen) obnoxious new boyfriend.

“Now, as Rob tries to head on the straight and narrow and Sharon does her best to support.

“Iit’s like he’s on a crusade, but to somewhere boring and we all have to come’, will the couple navigate the relentless tsunami of life’s challenges, or see their relationship finally

submerged by it all?

“With Rob potentially not the only one on the wrong side of the law, health issues, new religious dalliances, a ‘briefcase of vegetables’ and ever-infuriating family members to contend with,

what could possibly go wrong?”

There is also set to be a storyline involving the late Carrie Fisher, who played Rob’s mother Mia.

The legendary Star Wars actress died in September 2016, but filmed season three of Catastrophe before she died.

Series creator Sharon Horgan said that writing Fisher out of the show proved difficult.

She told Radio Times: “It’s a tricky thing to work out – because obviously, we want to deal with it, but also don’t want to make light of it.

“But at the same time we’re a comedy and we can’t help ourselves – not the making light of it thing, but trying to infuse it with comedy in amongst the drama of it.”

Horgan added: “Series three felt like a really good goodbye to her, because it was such a great performance and we really got to know a lot more about the character.”
