Israeli snipers have shot dead at least 52 Palestinians and injured hundreds after Trump’s controversial decision to move the US embassy to disputed city that lies at the heart of tensions
between the two communities.
Health officials in Gaza said at least 52 Palestinians have been killed and 1,200 injured in a day of fierce clashes close to the border fence.
Protesters streamed to the Gaza border wall before the Israeli Defence Force opened fire prompting chaotic scenes.
Israeli drones dropped tear gas onto Palestinian demonstrators who used kites to drop molotov cocktails.
Clouds of black smoke from tyres set alight by demonstrators rose in the air.
Demonstrators, some armed with slingshots, threw stones at the Israeli security forces, who fired tear gas back.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US president Donald Trump for having made “history” with his decision, that has prompted outrage among Palestinians and many in the
international community.
He said: “What a moving day for the people of Israel and the State of Israel.

“President Trump, by recognising history you are making history.
“Today the embassy of the most powerful country on earth, our greatest ally the United States, opened here.
Turkey has, however, blamed the US President for the bloodshed in Gaza on Monday.
Turkey's Foreign Ministry said: “We curse the massacre carried out by Israeli security forces, encouraged by this step, on the Palestinians participating in peaceful demonstrations.”
The EU, including the UK Government, has voiced strong objections to the embassy move.
Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of a state they want to establish in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Israel regards all of the city, including the eastern sector it captured and annexed in the 1967 Middle East war, as its "eternal and indivisible capital" in a move that has not won
international recognition.
