US officials have sent mixed signals about the nuclear agreement hammered out between Iran and six major powers - Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the US - under which Tehran

agreed to restrict its nuclear program in return for western countries loosening economic sanctions. Mr Trump said he had now made a decision on whether the US will remain pat of the the

pact, which he described as an “embarrassment”, but declined to elaborate Iran vowed not to be the first nation to violate the accord when Mr Rouhani addressed the annual gathering of world

leaders. He condemned Mr Trump’s combative speech as “ignorant, absurd and hateful rhetoric” and said  Iran would not be intimidated by threats as he promised to stick with the nuclear

accord. He said: “I declare before you that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not be the first country to violate the agreement. “Iran will respond decisively and resolutely to a violation

of the accord by any party.” And in a sideswipe at Mr Trump, who described Iran as a "rogue" state, the Iranian president said: "It will be a great pity if this agreement were

to be destroyed by 'rogue' newcomers to the world of politics: the world will have lost a great opportunity.”  Mr Rouhani also rejected Mr Trump’s claims that Iran exported

terrorism. He said: “Iran does not seek to restore its ancient empire, impose its official religion on others or export its revolution through the force of arms.” He insisted Iran’s defence

capabilites, including its missiles, were purely deterrents designed to maintain peace and stability in the troubled region. Mr Rouhani said the bloody conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Bahrain

had no military solutions and would only be resolved through ceasefires and the “acceptance of the will and wishes of the people”.
