Outrageously beautiful town with the 'best view in europe'

A beautiful town nestled on the coast of Montenegro has been said to have one of the best views in Europe. Kotor was named by TimeOut as one of the most beautiful places in the world, in a

list of 30 locations. The fortified town in the Bay of Kotor is secluded and has a population of just 13,500. It is a World Heritage Site for is monuments, four Romanesque churches and the

town walls. Writer Paul Stafford said of the town: “Squeezed between water and rock is the triangular, medieval Old Town of Kotor, with its gravity-defying fortress zigzagging up the steep

cliffs above.  “Although it’s possible to climb the fortress steps from town, I prefer to wander the winding shepherd’s trail on the fortress’ northern flank. “It’s here, amid the ruins of a

deserted, roadless village, that you can munch on homemade sheep’s cheese and rye bread at the last inhabited farmhouse, overlooking the bay’s glassy, obsidian water.” Among the things to

do in Kotar are visiting the 14th-century city walls and its towers, the 12th-century Catholic cathedral St Tryphon’s and Kotor beach. Nearby are other beaches, Lady of the Rocks, forts and

castles, Lovcen National Park, and towns like Tivat and the capital Podgorica. Over a year, the town can welcome more than 250,000 tourists, over 19 times the amount of permanent residents.

Visitors can fly directly to Kotor from Manchester or to Podgorica (one hour 30 minutes from Kotor) and Tivat (20 minutes from Kotor) from London, Edinburgh and Manchester. Other spots
