BBC Weather forecast scorching temperatures will sweep across most parts of England and Wales as the glorious Bank Holiday weekend weather continues. Monday became the hottest early May Bank

Holiday on record this morning when the mercury hit 25.1C in Gosport, on the south coast - beating the previous record of 23.6C in 1999, only for a new rcord to be set this afternoon.  This

afternoon temperatures in Northolt, west London, reached 28.7C (83.6F) on Monday, making it the hottest early May Bank Holiday weekend on record, the Met Office said. Speaking on BBC’s

Today programme, BBC weather forecast Louise Lear forecast the record to be broken by quite some way. She said: “It is another glorious day for most of us, not for us all. Already

temperatures 17C in High Wycombe. “It looks perhaps to the west of London we will see the highest values today, 27C or 28C. “But we only need, I say only, need to get above 23.6C which is

going to widely happen across England and Wales to be the hottest early Bank Holiday Monday on record. “So there is lots of good news if you like the heat. Lots of sunshine around for the

whole of England and Wales, at the moment. “There is a little bit of low cloud across the Irish Sea. If you have this low cloud and this coastal mist and fog, temperatures could be a little

bit disappointing.” Just before midday, BBC weather confirmed the record for the hottest early Bank Holiday Monday had been beaten with warm temperatures in Gosport in Hampshire. BBC weather

forecaster Alina Jenkins said: “The early May Bank Holiday temperature record has just been broken." WEATHER LATEST: MAY BANK HOLIDAY TEMPERATURE RECORD IS BROKEN > It looks perhaps

to the west of London we will see the highest > values today, 27C or 28C >  > BBC weather forecaster Louise Lear Some forecasters have even claimed the sweltering temperatures

could even reach 29C in some parts of the UK. Met Office meteorologist Helen Roberts said high pressure over Britain and a “plume” of tropical air from the Continent will bring in the

summer-like weather. She said: “Monday will bring much of the same with widespread sunshine across a good part of the country and temperatures hitting 28C (82.4F) or possibly 29C (84.2F) in

some parts.” A statement on the Met Office website adds: “Bank Holiday Monday promises to be another very warm day, with plenty of sunshine. “Patchy fog and low cloud may affect some western

coasts, where cooler. Cloudier over Northern Ireland and Scotland with some patchy light rain at times.” The RAC predicts 1.27 million car journeys today with another 1.91 million forecast

tomorrow with traffic expected to peak between 10am to 4pm. Traffic spokesman Rod Dennis said: “Many people will still be keen to make the most of the early May warmth by escaping in the car

to spend time with family or friends especially after the recent chilly spell that even lead to some overnight frosts at the start of this week. “If we see things really warm up it’s likely

to mean millions more cars on the road, which is bound to cause queues on popular routes.” Exacta Weather’s James Madden said there could even be a chance the mercury could reach the 30C

mark. He said: “Swathes of Britain are about to enjoy a warm and settled Bank Holiday weekend. “We expect to see temperatures ranging from the low to mid 20Cs quite widely and all it will

take is a small nudge in the right direction to reach the 30C-mark. This is most likely to happen in the south.”
